Canvas on the Cheap Does Pictures

My father-in-law used to do paid photography work. On the other hand... my mother-in-law didn't. Recently, she was all proud of a picture she took and asked if I could get it printed out for hanging. When offered to review a piece from Canvas on the Cheap, I couldn't pass up the opportunity.

Ordering through the Canvas on the Cheap website is easy and secure. You just pick the image you desire to be printed, either by uploading one of your own or picking one you've previously posted to Instagram. Edits are limited to rotating and cropping so if you want to get rid of red-eye, you have to do that before uploading. Then you pick which size canvas you desire. This ranges from an 8"x8" which is appropriate for the desktop all the way up to 30"x40", very suitable for hanging.
After picking the size, you get to choose any add-ons. These range from depth of canvas to framing options, to whether or not you want a dust cover across the back. All the add-ons increase the price if you want more than the original/default setup (.75" depth, no frame, no dust cover). Pricing for the actual print is relatively inexpensive at $17.60 for a 16"x20", for example. The listed price is higher, but it seems nobody ever pays full price. All in would cost you just under $60 for Brazilian Barnwood and the deeper depth. You cannot get a dustcover backing if you get the picture framed. Though, without a frame, you do get a metal piece across the top to help with hanging. Later in the ordering process, you'll see upgrade options for hanging, topping off at just under $15 for one particular setup.

Delivery of the canvas was relatively quick. We ordered on a Friday, and it arrived the following Friday or Saturday. It was packed well. I had to pull the scissors away from my 11-year-old as I didn't want him to dig into the canvas as he tried to cut away the packaging. It definitely wouldn't get damaged in typical transit.

Quality of the canvas was outstanding. The in-laws are still trying to figure out where to hang it. I don't think my mother-in-law correctly pictured in her mind how big a 16x20 canvas actually is. Time will tell how well the canvas holds the color. You hope it doesn't fade but, you just can't answer that one immediately.
Shipping costs are on top of the base price. For a 16x20 canvas, that shipping price is just under $15. Need expedited shipping, expect to pay over $100 more, on top of the canvas cost.

Overall my mother-in-law is happy with the canvas. My father-in-law questions why she picked that picture, given all the other ones available, but like I said earlier, my mother-in-law just doesn't take that many of the pictures, so she was proud of this one. My only real complaint here is the advertised 87% off discount. If Canvas on the Cheap never requires you to pay full-price, you can argue that any discount amount is okay to offer. Don't get me wrong, as I do like their lower prices, but why not just say 99% off and start with a higher base price? And, do watch for coupon codes out in the wild to save even more. You'll receive them directly from the vendor via email if you sign up for their mailing list.
