Rover: The Dog-Lover’s Paradise

Written by Nat Smith, community member. Rover is the nation's largest network of 5-star pet sitters and dog walkers.
Rover is a friendly and welcoming community of dog lovers, connecting owners with top-notch pet-sitters who can provide support with everything from daily walks to overnight care.

Even more importantly, Rover expands the borders of your family. For busy owners and pet-loving caregivers with a lot of love to share, it’s the hub that helps you find exactly what you need.

Rover exists on the web at you can also take it on the go with the iOS and Android mobile apps. In addition to sitter and owner profiles, Rover includes how-to guides, communication tools, and ample resources to guarantee great stays.
How does it work?
Upon sign-up, you’ll start a personal profile as either a pet owner or pet sitter. You can also do both! Rover runs a background check on sitters to improve safety for the site’s users, and analyzes the caregiver’s level of experience before approving their application.

Search tools help owners find local care providers. First, they’ll assess what they need: Dog boarding? House sitting? A dog walker? Doggy daycare? They can get help with long-term stays, or brief drop-in visits--the options are completely customizable. After browsing profiles, they can contact sitters and set up a Meet & Greet prior to the initial stay.

Rover itself provides:
  • access to 24/7 support, including vet assistance
  • automatic, secure payments
  • premium insurance for the dog in your care, as well as the owner’s property
  • guidance to walk owners and sitters through every step of the process
How do I hire a sitter?
It’s never been easier to find reliable, high-quality pet-sitting services. Rover will help you assess what you need in a sitter, considering factors like your pet’s temperament and history. The search tools and sitter reviews enable owners to cast a wide net and make a great match.

Using the app or site to contact potential sitters, you can ask questions and schedule a Meet & Greet to assess whether you’ve found the right fit. Then, Rover will help you prepare for the stay, and keep in touch while you’re away. Instant updates will give you peace of mind and ensure worry-free travel.

Owners can also hire sitters for doggy daycare, dog-walking, and drop-in visits. That way, no matter how hectic your schedule gets, your Rover caregiving team can make sure your pup is happy, safe, and in great health.

Becoming a Sitter
Sitters choose which services they’ll offer, set their own rates, and customize profiles to help owners make informed decisions. Successful sitters keep their availability up to date at all times, respond promptly to requests, and employ excellent communication skills. They demonstrate their reliability and devotion to pets with each interaction.

Whether you join Rover as a sitter or owner, you’ll be surrounded by people who love pets as much as you do--and plenty of four-legged friends to keep you company. Whether you’re looking for reliable support, a steady source of income, or a social outlet, you can count on Rover.

  1. This does sound like a great service. You can't always find someone you know who would really want to watch your dog. I don't have a dog right now, but hope to get one when I move.
