Toast Real Wood Phone Case Review / Giveaway and Winter is Coming Blog Hop

Most phone cases these days are fairly generic looking. Typically, they're pieces of plastic that wrap around the phone to protect it from being dropped. Some may be a little more stylish, but they're still mostly the same case that most other people have.

I had the chance to try out a wooden phone case from Toast which provides an alternative look with the ability to customize it to truly be your own. The Toast case comes in three shades of wood (walnut, ash, and ebony), and you wrap it around the back of your phone with sticky tape that is on the back of the cover. It does wrap around the backside edges of the phone, too, though you need to get a separate piece to cover the front side / front edges.

In addition to customizing the case with different shades of wood, you can also have them etch an image onto the wood, too, kind of like printing a photograph on a piece of plastic, but with actual indentations in the wood to depict the image. I had them put the logo for the blog on the wood. It actually looks pretty good and can easily be seen by someone looking at the back of the phone.

Installation of the case was very easy. You start by placing a "base" piece of wood around the camera on back. It could be the same color wood or a second color, depending upon your desires. After that goes on, you essentially wrap the back with the full case. You have to take the backing off the case before placing on the back of the phone. That's where the sticky parts are. It is a little tricky to get this backing off for the edges as the wood is smaller pieces on the edges, not curved wood. Do be sure to clean the phone before placing the case over it to ensure best adhesion.

When I first heard wooden case, I was thinking something big and bulky. That was far from the situation. While the case adds some weight to the device, it is minimal and might have actually felt a little lighter than the regular plastic case I previously had. You do have to get used to the feel of the wooden case, which is definitely different than plastic (or the metal case). My only complaint about the case was it didn't cover the top edges on its own. I like having the added protection of those top edges. But other than that, I liked the uniqueness of the case I could create. They even offer some standard' images you could have etched into the wood, like Motorcycle, Stag, and Fly Fishing, or you can get nothing etched on it for a plainer look, or just text. Definitely more masculine images for the available set of images they provide.

They offer phone cases for all the popular phone models like from Apple, LG, and Samsung. One might not be available yet if the model is brand new, though I wouldn't expect it to take long for a new phone model case to be available.
