Cooking like a Pro – Which Equipment Do Chefs Use in Their Kitchens?

Cooking shows have never been more popular. How many people sit glued to the TV during cooking shows like The Rachael Ray Show or Hell's Kitchen? These days, there’s even a whole channel dedicated to getting your fix of cooking shows. Of course, TV chefs like Rachael Ray and Gordon Ramsay also have home kitchens where they put their talents to good use, and who wouldn’t love to be a fly on the wall in Gordon's kitchen if his TV appearances are anything to go by! While few are lucky enough to see how a professional chef cooks at home, it is possible to make use of similar equipment when you create your own delicious meals.

The Essential Small Serrated Knife

It's a good idea to have a full set of good quality knives in your kitchen. But, one of the most important implements to have on hand is a small serrated knife. The serrations make this an ideal tool for cutting everything from delicate items such as bread, to hard vegetables.

More Than Just a Cake Tester

If you like to bake, then having a cake tester around is pretty much a necessity. However, cake testers are not just useful for testing cakes, they can also be used for checking the cooking progress of other items such as vegetables.

Precision Is Key

Invest in a set of quality scales. While estimating ingredients may work on occasion, to ensure a good result you need to be precise, particularly when baking. Also, remember to buy metric when purchasing scales.

Don't Forget the Wine

This may not be completely about cooking, but wine is often an important part of a meal. Therefore, you need a good quality corkscrew, as the last thing you want is to have bits of cork floating in your glass of wine. Once you have a reliable corkscrew in your collection of kitchen equipment, you need to make sure that you know how to use it properly.

Storing and Cooking Sous Vide

Vacuum sealing is an excellent way of keeping food items fresh in the fridge. It also helps to protect items that you want to store in the freezer. If you are feeling adventurous, you can also use a vacuum sealer to cook items using the sous vide method.

All of these items can be purchased in store or online. You need to take a look at providers like the Kitchen Collection. It's a good idea to buy your kitchen equipment from this type of reputable company as you want to make sure that you invest in equipment which is manufactured to last, and which does the job well. We cannot promise this will make you as good as Gordon or Rachael, but at least you will have the right equipment to try.
