Chicken Soup for the Soul: O Canada: The Wonders of Winter
There are two Chicken Soup for the Soul: O Canada books. This review is of their second one, subtitled The Wonders of Winter, that just came out in November. I never read the first that came out in 2011. I've been reading this one waiting for a snowstorm that is supposed to deliver at least a foot of snow. I thought it might put me in more of a happier mood with the imminent weather coming later in the week. Now where did I put that shovel...

The subtitle of this book is 101 Stories about Bad Weather, Good Times, and Great Sports. Surprisingly, none of those are section titles, as the book is broken up into the typical ten sections of roughly ten stories each:

  1. Oh So Canadian!
  2. More than Just Neighbours
  3. The Great Outdoors
  4. Childhood Memories
  5. On the Ice
  6. Love in the Snow
  7. That Famous Canadian Kindness
  8. Lessons Learned
  9. Traditions and Celebrations
  10. A Holiday to Remember
The book starts with an intro from Canadian inspirational speaker Janet Matthews. She talks about the resilience of fellow Canadians. In fact, all the stories are not just about Canada, they are written by Canadians. I'm not one, but I (and you) can still enjoy the title, as the stories are the typical feel good inspirational stories. Is weather the only thing these people talk about with each other though??? That and hockey. :)

As described by the publisher:
Canadian winters are notorious! But this collection will warm your heart, brighten your day, and lift your spirits. Any Canadian — from east to west coast; from city to rural — will love the 101 stories in this new collection about embracing those long winter days and making the most of them. Filled with amusing and encouraging stories about weathering the cold, creating warm memories with family and friends, and playing great winter sports.
Overall, I found this to be one of the better Chicken Soup books. I'm not sure if I would have said the same had I been reading this in the middle of summer, but they certainly know how to have fun in the colder weather. I can't wait for those negative temperatures here coming later in the week to Boston.
