Chicken Soup for the Soul 20th Anniversary Review

Chicken Soup for the Soul
It has been out for twenty years now but, believe it or not, I have never read the original Chicken Soup for the Soul book, until now. I've read some of the many other titles, just not the original. As part of being a Soup-er Blogger for Chicken Soup for the Soul, I received a review copy of the 20th Anniversary Edition for, well, a review.

If you're not familiar with the series/brand, the books provide uplifting stories from both well-known and not so well-known authors. Okay, with over 500 million books sold worldwide and 88% brand recognition in the United States, are there that many people not familiar with the series?

After 20 years, the original title for the series has grown a little with their 20th anniversary edition. There are twenty new stories from topics ranging from love, to parenting and learning. All stories range in size from one page to just shy of ten, with most on the shorter end. And if you go through the book's index, you'll find the new stories at the beginning of each section, labeled in bold.

While the individual tales are great to read, focusing on stories for you that are positive, uplifting, and helpful, I found the “Meet the Contributors” section in the back the most interesting, matching names to the stories in the book. Here you learn about the original authors, from their original 1993 bios, as well as the new crop of contributors. If they’re famous (like Amos), I might know of them already, but it was more interesting to read about all the storytellers that were less than famous. One thing lacking from the new set though was contact information, even if just a Twitter id. With the original contributors, each provided a snail mail address, and possibly a phone number, too.
Overall, a great read, though not too much reading at a time. You don’t want your brain to go into overload from all that positivity. Very inspirational though. And don’t miss out on the How It All Began story by Jack Canfied, to learn more about the early days of project. Great job.
