New England recently had its first major storm of the year. The snow itself wasn't that bad, we only got six inches. What was bad was that after it snowed, the temperature was going down to nearly zero (Fahrenheit). That meant everything was going to ice up.
I was able to clear the snow with the snowblower before things iced up, but that left our driveway all iced up after the storm was over. At that temperature the ice melt only helped so much. Yes, it will melt the snow, but you have to hang around to clear it or else it will ice up again. Our problem here that I deal with for every storm is our driveway has a serious slope, so bad that when I was still driving a Ford Mustang with real wheel drive, I sometimes could not get the vehicle up the driveway to the garage.
Due to the sloped driveway, I had been eyeing getting ice cleats to put on my shoes. Basically, you wrap your own boot/shoe with the ice cleats, then you can literally walk on ice, without slipping and sliding all over the place. After taking one to many headers last snow season, I figured it was worth trying them out this season.
