In searching for something good and healthy for the dog, I ran across Yak Dog Chews, also known as Himalayan Cheese Chews. Think of them as cheese sticks, but super hard, yet safe. They're all nature, made from milk from yaks and cows. More importantly, they don't splinter. And, when they get super-small, you can throw what's left in the microwave to get a cheese puff type treat.
Researching Yak Dog Chews led me to a company called Pawstruck, as their dog chews were getting good reviews and their products were reasonably priced. I also liked the idea of them being a smaller company.
When ordering, they do sell individual items, but they encourage you to bulk up and buy multiples of the same item, where the price/item decreases as you select larger quantities. Like for these esophagus braided rings, they're $4.20 each when ordering 85 of the item. If having your dog try something for the first time, I might limit the order to a small quantity, just in case they don't like it.
Ordering from Pawstruck was easy, once you pick what you want. Deciding on what can take time, to no fault of the site. Just several of the items listed I never knew were an option as dog treats. So, take your time, or just consider getting something like their bully stick variety pack. Why decide, if you don't have to with a variety pack.
Our order was delivered reasonably quickly and shipping was just $7 for orders under $100 or free when above. When our items arrived, one thing I didn't immediately notice was the generic packaging. While, yes, the brand name of Pawstruck is clearly on there. What wasn't on the product label was the name of the actual product. That definitely keeps the costs down. Hmmm.... looking at their latest offerings on web, I see they've added product names to the packaging. Good for them.
If you're thinking of getting treats, bones, or food from them, the best place to start is their popular product list. The list is basically just their most popular selling items. If you don't mind following the crowd, or just picking a present for a friend's dog, it is a great place to start, until you know what your dog likes. Consider one of their variety packs, too.
Overall, a very happy dog in the end. We don't leave the chew sticks with him when he's alone. Not because they're unsafe, though. These yak dog chews are high in calories. You don't want your pet eating up the too much of the treat at once.
