Interview

For the record, please state your name.

My name is Clinton Coy or C.S. Coy which is my pen name.

What inspired you to become a writer?

When I was kid, I loved writing. I used to be bullied pretty badly when I was younger, and so I used to let out my emotions through my writing so much that it became almost like a second friend to me. Writing took me to other worlds when I needed it the most and it took me a while to realize that I wanted to become writer to share my stories and my life to people. Writing can bring so many emotions to readers like hope and inspiration and that's what I wanted to do as a writer.
What are your hobbies?

When I’m not writing, I love to draw. Some of my other hobbies include playing tennis and listening to music.

What are you passionate about?

Doing what I can to help or inspire others. Whether that's through my writing or me as a person, that's always been my goal even before I became an author.

What interests are you into?

Other than writing and drawing, I like to travel and sometimes cook. I'm into sports like tennis, hockey, and football. I'm proudly also a nerd and like comic book stuff, anime, and video games.

What social media do you use to contact with your fans? Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter

Mostly through my website, Twitter and Facebook.

What is your username on the different social media platforms? (do you want this information to be published)

Facebook: @authorcscoy
Twitter: @CsCoy123

What did you do before you became a published author?

Before I became a published author, I was a janitor and before that, I was a host serving food.

Do you have another job other than writing?

As of right now, writing is a full-time job for me.

How long have you been writing for?

I began writing a lot when I was kid but it’s been about five years since I really decided to write again and become an author.

What's your writing style like?

My writing style I would say is very detailed and fast paced. I like to be descriptive and have my characters really carry the story.

What's your favorite genre to write/read in and why?

Sci-Fi is my favorite genre to write in. I love exploring unworldly things and exploring the limits of what we can actually see in real life. Sometimes I like to write fantasy as I tended to read a lot of fantasy books when I was younger.

What's your least favorite genre to write/read in and why?

Non-Fiction I would say is my least favorite.

Some writers have something playing in the background, do you and what?

A lot of the times I have music playing in the background. Sometimes writing with music can really help me bring out a scene in a book and so I like to play it. Other times, it can help me concentrate and block out everything around me too when I write.

What's the inspiration behind your books?

The overall theme of the book is with bullying and the different affects that bullying can have on different people. While people go through bullying, we all react to it differently and so I wanted to show that through my characters that live in this world taken over by alien creatures that represent bullying in general.

If you could do it all over again, would you change anything about your books?

Not really. I rewrote the book so many times until I knew it was ready so I wouldn't really change anything.

Is there anything you found particularly challenging about writing?

Writing action scenes can be very challenging. Sometimes with so much detail and so many things going on, the scene could end up being a bit boring or dragging on maybe. So, finding that balance is important to keep readers interested while also thrilled at the same time.

Who are your cover designers?

I actually designed the cover for my book. I have some knowledge in Photoshop and kind of just went for it. For me, I wanted readers to feel the emotions of the book through its cover and give that sense of dread that you kind of feel throughout the entirety of the book.

What authors are your inspiration?

C.S. Lewis and Marc Cerasini. Both authors showed me how to create/craft worlds that I thought could never exist on paper.

What is your take on fanfiction?

I think fanfiction is awesome. Any time you have people writing and creating fun and really cool ideas through another story or world is always inspiring.

What advice would you give any newbie author or anyone that wants to pick up writing?

I always think that it’s important to write the book that you want to read. In other words, write the book that is you. Don't try to be anyone else, just be you and have confidence in your writing and your story. And take your time. Writing isn't something you can rush so really take the time to plan when crafting your book.

What are your fondest childhood memories?

I remember all the times I used to just sit at the table and draw comics or write stories for hours, day in and day out. A whole week of vacation would pass by and I would be in the same spot in my own world creating new stories every day and I loved every minute of it.

If you don’t mind tell us a little about your personal life?

My life is pretty basic but in a good way. I always like to stick to a routine schedule. Most of my mornings are filled with writing while the rest of the day I like to get out and travel or constantly work on something since I never like to sit still. I'm always planning ahead and always thinking about what I can do better or how I can be better which is something that is also very important to me. I tend to be socially awkward and struggle with depression and anxiety sometimes so I like to keep busy to kind of bring balance in my life.

Do you have any causes, charities, foundations that you are passionate about and donate to? if so why? How did you get involved??

Recently, I've been trying to raise money for an anti-bullying organization that means a lot to me. So far I’ve done previous t-shirt campaigns for them and have a t-shirt campaign running for them for the start of 2019. The organization is truly amazing and provides a lot of support for people (of all ages) who go through bullying and because of that, the community behind the organization is just amazing and there's always support there to anyone who might need it. Hopefully as time goes on, I hope to partner up with more bullying prevention groups and organizations and really have a chance to do more in raising awareness of bullying.

Do you have any pets?

Unfortunately, I do not.
Some fun questions now...

What age were you when you were first kissed?

17

Who was your high School sweetheart?

T.B. is my high school sweetheart. The book is in dedication to her and we've been together for 7 years now.

I wanted to be an artist when I was younger because I loved to draw all the time and create comics

What is your favourite color?

22

Did you live in a house or apartment when you were a child?

What was your favorrite TV show as a child?

Dragon Ball Z. I was a huge DBZ fan and still am.

What was your favorite book?

Godzilla At Worlds End by Marc Cerasini. Growing up watching Godzilla movies, I never thought as a kid, that you could actually create a book about Godzilla. This book showed me that anything is possible when it comes to writing and is the book that inspired me to become a writer.

Tell us about your book/s?

The Unexpected is a story that takes place in the year 2025 as an invasion of alien creatures known as Instinctive Outside Beings or IOBs [who] have taken over the world. With the world merely destroyed, the story follows the journey of Clay Treston who finds himself struggling within a reality he has long lost. Tortured and beaten from the impact of the IOBs, he continues to fight and protect a city full of survivors in order to hang onto a past that holds him together. But when suspicious events begin to appear, he soon learns a bigger plot beginning to unfold around him as he tries to hold himself together to fight. On the verge of losing himself and the city, he is then forced to not only learn what his true path is in the world, but see a new reality before him.

Tell us a little about yourself. Perhaps something not many people know about? Can you share with us the best way to contact you and where to find your work? This is where you have the floor.

For me, success is defined by the work that I can do and the lives that I could possibly change with it. Whether that’s readers finding inspiration through my characters, or through my worlds, myself or even my writing...I believe that if I can inspire at least one person with my book, then I've done my job as a writer.

To create communities and groups that gather around to talk about a book, and inspire them to do good with it and to come together to discuss or create ideas, I believe, really shows how far creativity can go and how far dreams can go. I hope that one day I can achieve that through my writing and will continue to do my best to do so!

In the meantime, feel free to check out my website to find out more about me, merchandise, t-shirt campaigns, and books which will be updated frequently! And if you have any questions, feel free to reach me through the "Contact" Tab on the website as I will do my best to get back to you. Thank you!

Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to do this interview with us!!!

Absolutely! Thank you for featuring me, I appreciate it.

We also need a picture for the interview. It could be of anything or anyone you want!
