The Top Five Most Fashionable Movie Characters of All Time

The media plays a huge role in our culture, from dictating beauty standards to giving us a joke or “meme” to laugh at around the world. Movies, TV shows, music videos, magazines – all of it works towards creating and reflecting our society.

That being said, there are certainly some fictional characters out there that get a standing ovation from the fashion community. These women are the ones who truly stand out, who are icons, who have inspired their own cult in fashion circles. Without further ado, here is a roundup of the top five most fashionable movie characters of all time:

The Most Fashionable Movie Characters of All Time

Andy Sachs, The Devil Wears Prada
From Drab to Fab, Andy Sachs took us all by storm after her makeover in The Devil Wars Prada.

Holly Golightly, Breakfast at Tiffany’s
Holly Golightly is possibly the start of the fashion world’s obsession with the Little Black Dress, and for good reason. The black, low back dress and pearls are a style icon that can be recreated by anyone.

Cher Horowitz, Clueless
The best-dressed character in the 90s is that of Cher Horowitz, whose sense of style has only become more enduring as the movie passes the 20-year mark. Bold prints, colors, and a penchant for power blazers and miniskirts is not a look that will go away any time soon. We’re absolutely mad for plaid!

Elle Woods, Legally Blonde
Bright and bubbly Elle Woods shows how you can wear whatever you want, whenever you want, and look incredible while doing it.

Catherine Tramell, Basic Instinct Though she is undoubtedly more famous for a certain scene, Catherine Tramell was no slouch when it came to fashion. Her luxurious all-white outfit is something that fashionistas copy to this day.

Recreating These Looks at Home
The reason why these fashion icons are so infamous isn’t just because they look great on screen, but because their style has inspired so many women over the years. To help bring some of their fashion genius into your own wardrobe, just remember two things:

Take Inspiration, Don’t Copy
It can be very difficult to find the exact replica of the garments that these characters wear, which is fine. You don’t want to copy their outfits exactly anyway, as that is more designated for Halloween than a real look. Instead, take inspiration. Wear an all-white luxurious outfit like Catherine Tramell, or mix and match bold prints in smart designs like Cher. Essentially, add your own creative touch to the sense of style that made these characters so famous.

Work with Your Body

You can look great at any shape or size, but you need to work with your body. Look for plus size tops online to get a great style and the right shape for your body if you need to. Or alternatively, opt for something a bit larger and then get it tailored to fit you at your waist. You can take style inspiration from any of these women, but only if you translate it into cuts that work best for your body.

It is rare that a fictional character is so fashion forward that their sense of style is admired for decades, but these top five women have done it. Take style inspiration from them and enjoy a classic, enduring look that will last forever.
