Here's a recipe book where nearly every recipe has the same instructions. The ingredients are different for the fifty-ish recipes, but you're greasing one side of the bread, putting cheese on the other, and letting it melt in a pan. Sometimes you throw in a protein or a veg. You might change the type of bread but otherwise the recipes are pretty much alike.
Each recipe utilizes a pun in its name. Apparently, the authors came up with the puns first than worked backwards to figure out what to put in the sandwiches. The beer pairings involved lots of taste testing. But, if you're relatively new to the beer arena, then an early chapter describing the difference between a wheat beer, a lager, and an IPA, among others will prove helpful. A similar chapter exists for the different cheeses, too.
Some of the punny names......
- Black and Blue - pumpernickel bread with bacon and American cheese, with a touch of blue cheese and paired with a fruit beer, like Magic Hat's #9.
- Dragon Ball Cheese - pita, soba noodles, roasted pork, queso fresco, carrot, and Sriracha and paired with something refreshing like Sapporo
- Hogs and Holes - rye, roasted pork, Swiss cheese, and pickle spear and paired with a dark lager like Flying Dog's K-9 Winter Ale.
The book would make a great gift for Father's Day or for someone who newly turned twenty-one. Publisher Hatherleigh has some other book ideas for Father's Day, too.) Along with the book, I would try to find a mixed six-pack of beers to get them started or perhaps just sign them up for the Microbrewed Beer of the Month Club and get $25 off
a prepaid 12 shipment order through 6/18, enough to pay for the book.
A challenge to consider with the book. One grilled cheese/beer combo a week for a whole year....
