5 Tips To Becoming A Proficient Guitar Player

All the great guitarists in the world have one thing in common—wonderful technique. Hence, if you want to become a proficient guitar player, it is of paramount importance for you to get your basics right. Therefore, you don't need to have the best acoustic guitar to become a good guitarist. As long as you have good technique, you are on your way towards becoming a proficient guitar player. Your hands and fingers must always be in the right place at the right time. Without straying away from the topic any further, here are five tips to becoming a proficient guitar player.
Tip 1: Practice standing up and sitting down
You should be aware that playing the guitar while sitting down is very different to strumming the guitar while standing up. Therefore, if you want to become a proficient guitar player, you need to rehearse with the guitar both while standing up and sitting down. How is the experience different? Well, when you practice on a chair, you will be able to see where your hands are. However, when the guitar is slung across the shoulder, you won't be able to see where your hands are.
Tip 2: You should record yourself
You must record yourself if you want to see your guitar playing objectively. By recording yourself, you will see how far behind you are in your development. You will also get the opportunity to witness your progress; this will, in turn, only motivate you to become a better player. Basically, when you record yourself, you will be able to identify your strengths and weaknesses and focus your practice on areas where you need improvement.
Tip 3: Get the basics right
If you are planning to learn how to play fast, you should quash those ideas immediately. As we mentioned earlier, you need good technique to become a proficient guitar player. And, good technique is all about accurate fingering and ensuring that your hands and fingers are in the right place at the right time. If you learn to play the instrument properly, the speed will happen all by itself.
Tip 4: Learn something new every day
A day spent without learning something new is a day wasted. Therefore, if you want to become a proficient guitar player, it is suggested for you to learn something new every day. It could be a chord, a lick, a riff, a scale, a melody, a song, a strum pattern or anything else. Doing this will help enrich your discipline of seeking out and exploring, which is one of the most important fundamentals required to become a proficient guitar player.
Tip 5: Take lessons
Sure, there are numerous tutorial videos on the web that can teach you the know-how of guitars. But, those tutorial videos don´t compare to the in-person, one-on-one lessons with skilled guitar teachers.  A good teacher will be able to eliminate your flaws and hone your skills with ease. After all, no one else will be able to identify your strengths and weaknesses better than your guitar teacher. A good teacher will teach you effective and efficient ways to learn the guitar faster, helping you sift through all the useless bit of information available on the web.
