CUJO Smart Firewall Review

When I hear the word Cujo, I'm reminded of the Stephen King book about a rabid dog. In the context of this review though, CUJO is a smart firewall for the connected home, designed to bring business-level security to your home network. Like the dog, you can think of the CUJO device as a projector, keeping away intruders. This one device will secure all your devices connected to the WiFi router. CUJO detects and blocks malicious sites, viruses, and hacks. Think of it as antivirus but for your entire network. Plus, CUJO lets you control what your kids access online and keep them safe

Main Features
• Business-Level Internet Security
• Guards All Devices
• Parental Controls
• Connect to Router, Control with App
• Blazing Fast (Built with 1GB Ethernet)
Recently, my son accidentally dropped his tablet and the screen shattered. Instead of getting him a replacement tablet, my wife and I decided it was time for him to have his own computer. While we've been using a KoalaSafe wireless access box for parental controls with the tablet, one big feature we lost with the tablet dying was the time limiting feature of an app that ran on the tablet that didn't have a Windows version. Thankfully, the CUJO Smart Firewall is full of parental control features, including time limits, allowing us to put them back. Perhaps I should limit my wife's time online, too... :)

Parental controls features:
- parental controls for all devices
- internet filter
- time limits
- social media monitoring
- pause internet
- alerts and reporting
- remote administration
- user profiles and settings

After the initial setup, the features are very easy to configure. While I'm definitely more technical than your average user, even my less technical wife can understand the control settings. In fact, you don't even have to be home to change the parental control settings. Just access your device from the CUJO app on your smartphone.

Speaking of setup, you can follow CUJO's eyes to understand what is going on. First, you download an app to your smartphone. Then, you connect CUJO to your router using the provided Ethernet cable and let the app walk you through configuration.

Once configured, all your home's devices are protected, not just your desktops, laptops, and smartphones. It might take a little time for them all to appear as not all devices contact the net so frequently. So, your in-home connections could includes your Nest thermostat, Google Chromecast, and Amazon Echo, for instance.
You can then watch the app to see what threats you were protected against in near real-time. Or, wait for CUJO to send you an alert notification when it blocks an internet threat.

The CUJO Smart Firewall is practically a must have these days given all the malicious users out in the wild. While you hope you never accidentally or otherwise attract anything, it isn't always so simple. In fact, if CUOJ detects anything maliciously coming from your computer, word gets back to the vendor where they'll send an updated firewall rule through the cloud so that your device is fully protected once again.

With CUJO protecting your home wireless network, you don’t even have to be home to use the full parental controls. Just open up the app and plug away.

Being a parent of a 10-year old, having a device like the CUJO is a practical necessity. Without the CUJO device, you're too much at risk of your computer contracting something that your child inadvertently installed on their system.

The $249 price might sound on the expensive side but it is money well spent to protect your home smart network. You'll find the CUJO Smart Firewall available at Best Buy.
