Old Spice DUO Review

Once upon a time there was this thing called soap invented. It works to clean the body. In the shower, I actually haven't used straight soap in some time. Instead, I've been using a 3-in-1 product with a shampoo, conditioner, and body wash in one. Old Spice and Proctor & Gamble is offering an alternative in their DUO line of products for Olay, Old Spice, and Ivory product lines. I was recently offered to try out their Old Spice DUO products.
The DUO pad is basically soap inside a new wave loofah. One side is soft and smooth while the other side is more for scrubbing. It has a soft chain attached which you can use for hanging or for wrapping around your hand/wrist when washing. This helps prevent it from falling. If you stretch the chain too far it won't break. Instead, the ends just separate. It connects back together easily. It reminds me a little of the old fashioned soap on a rope.
To use the product, you just wet it and the pad lathers up. Supposedly, it is good for up to 30 showers though I haven't showered that many times yet with it. You scrub yourself with rough side of the pad and the other side is much smoother. Instead of having to apply soap to a washcloth its already there in the pad.

Like a 3-in-1 body wash/shampoo/conditioner, I found the DUO pad not perfect for washing my face. I didn't feel rubbing the pad directly on my face was the way to go. Instead, you would use the pad to lather up your hands and then wash your face from that. I guess if you have a really dirty face the rougher side of the pad might help.

Being an Old Spice product you might expect the scent to be overwhelming. I did not find it that way at all. In fact, it was much lighter than I was expecting. It is certainly a pleasant scent, and there are two scents available: Pure Sport and Swagger. I suspect Proctor & Gamble just markets the Old Spice DUO brand directly to men so they don't have to buy the Olay or Ivory versions instead.

Overall, I like the product as an alternative to your more typical body wash/shampoo/conditioner. This would allow me to get a 2-in-1 instead while sticking with this for washing the face and body. It should provide a better facial wash in the end and as long as your 2-in-1 isn't a competing scent, you should smell better and feel cleaner in the end.

  5. Interesting product, I just saw a commerical for this yesterday. Old Spaice reminds of my dad, he wore it all the time. I'm going to check it out in CVS tomorrow. I think I'd like to get the "Ivory" one for myself, it seems like a great timesaver. As for you not rubbing the pad on your face...well, men don't really have to. You exfoliate daily when you shave. But us gals like to exfoliate, I think it would work great for us!
