PlugBits Earplugs Review

My nine-year old recently started to play the trumpet. You might think my wife and I would get earplugs for ourselves. However, we've gotten them for him. He has limited hearing in one ear and his otolaryngologist (ear doctor) wants to protect the limited hearing he does have.

Quite simply, musicians earplugs protect the wearer from the loud sounds while allowing the soft sounds through. Custom musician earplugs cost over $100 per ear. With a nine-year old, our son is bound to lose them, no matter how much he understands their importance. That would leave him with no protection and a two week plus wait to get replacements.

Over the counter earplugs like the ones from PlugBits do not provide the same level of protection as custom earplugs, but they're close to one tenth the cost. If you're looking to save some money or have lost your custom earplugs, they provide an excellent alternative to using nothing. You can keep a set available for those times when nothing else is available.
The PlugBits earplugs come with three different sets of earplugs. There is a clear pair, a purple pair, and a blue foam pair. The white and purple pair can be used by musicians, DJs, or club goers. Have  you ever been to a club and the music was so loud that you couldn't hear your neighbor speaking? These are a great option to help. The purple pair can also be used by swimmers or when showering. The blue set are for use when sleeping.
The hardest part of using any earplugs is learning how to insert them in the ear. The blue set are the easiest to insert since they're the largest. The other two require you to pull your ear up and back before inserting to get a snug fit. Don't insert properly and they don't work.

After usage, be sure to clean the white and purple sets with warm water to ensure no dirt/ear wax buildup.

Overall, I like the PlugBits earplugs as a backup to having custom earplugs. The carrying case allows easy transport and can be packed away with my son's musical instrument to be available in times of need. If you don't have / need custom earplugs, they are a good option to have if you work or play in loud environments. Their price is well worth the price to save your hearing.
