I've reviewed my fair share of Bluetooth headphones in the past. I recently received a unique set from a company called 1 Voice. The headphones are in the form of a beanie. Yes, you heard that right. It is your typical winter beanie that you might wear out in the snow. Sewn inside the beanie are your wireless headphones. Pair them up to your phone and you can listen to your music, no wires required, while keeping your head warm.
How they work is identical to any other set of wireless headphones, except you don't have to put the earbuds in your ear or on your ear. Instead, you put the hat on and make sure the Bluetooth receivers are placed right over each ear. Turn the headset on with buttons over your left ear and pair with your phone like a typical Bluetooth device. It will show up as 1Voice in your device list.
The magical left ear controls also include volume up / down buttons. Listening to Spotify, the up bottom allowed me to go to the next tract. The charging connector is also found there. They'll go for 10-12 hours on a single charge.
Audio quality is decent. They held up pretty well to high bass (Radioactive/Imagine Dragons). You can crank up the volume, it will get loud, and you'll definitely hear the music while skiing down the slopes or doing many other outdoor activities. These aren't $200 headphones though for the audiophile. They have a purpose of keeping your head warm while you wirelessly listen to your music outside. No earbuds falling out of your ear. No risk of them jamming into your ear if you fall. The Bluetooth receivers definitely sound better than your typical earbuds, but they're meant to be used while you're actively doing something: running, skiing, biking... And you'll get superior sound quality out of the hat than most anything else available for that type of environment.
The hat costs $69 and comes in 15 colors in wool or cotton. You can grab a 25% off coupon if you sign up for their newsletter, dropping the price to $51.75. Domestic shipping is free.
I barely had the beanie out of the box and one of my co-workers bought two more, one for himself and his girlfriend. They are unisex.
The hats are washable, but you must take the Bluetooth receivers out before you wash them. There is a small hole on the headband where they can be removed. They are velcroed in so they stay in place.Overall, a great product that I can see myself getting for a few people for Christmas. I wouldn't mind a lower price but the quality and function is there for the current price. I'll definitely be wearing the hat when I'm out shoveling / snow blowing for sure.
