Chicken Soup for the Soul: Inspiration for Nurses Review and Giveaway

Chicken Soup for the Soul: Inspiration for Nurses Review, Giveaway, and End Of Summer Blog Hop. Ends 9/15
As an Official Soup-er Blogger for the Chicken Soup for the Soul, I get most if not all of their books it seems. One of their latest offerings is Inspiration for Nurses: 101 Stories of Appreciation & Wisdom. What follows is my thoughts on the title and a chance to win THREE copies.

First off is their blurb on the title:
Chicken Soup for the Soul: Inspiration for Nurses is filled with 101 stories that will allow nurses to find their own hearts and souls in the pages of this book, as well as the inspiration they need to stay encouraged in the healthcare industry today. Working in the healthcare industry never gets easier; staying positive and engaged can be difficult. Yet, day after day, nurses show up to selflessly nurture others with their hands and their hearts. This collection of true stories champions nurses' daily contributions, commitments and sacrifices, and depicts the compassion, intelligence and humor needed to meet today's demands. Through laughter and tears, nurses share their stores to inspire and fortify one another, so together they can continue their competent, compassionate service.
The introduction is written by LeAnn Thieman, an LPN who has contributed to several other titles in the past, including the first two nursing related books. The 101 stories are broken down into eleven chapters:
  1. The True Meaning of Nursing
  2. Defining Moments
  3. A Calling
  4. Lessons
  5. Overcoming Obstacles
  6. Divine Intervention
  7. Angels Among Us
  8. A Matter of Perspective
  9. Beyond the Call of Duty
  10. Heart of a Nurse
  11. Thank You
There are no nurses in my immediate family but when I include cousins there are an amazing number of nurses in the family. When both my parents passed, they were surrounded by family and nurses from the family. While there was nothing they could do to fix the situation, being available to talk to staff to get a clearer picture of what was going on was forever helpful. This book reminds me of how grateful I was during the situations. As the opening quote in the book says:
To all the nurses who, perhaps more than any other group on Earth, truly ease the suffering in the world.
As is typical of a Chicken Soup for the Soul book, you have 101 uplifting stories. The stories here are by nurses and for nurses. I liked reading about all the different trials and tribulations nurses go through. However, without the personal connection, they didn't always hit home as much as they could. There might be a great story about a NICU nurse, but not being close to one, you miss a little connection with the whole story. Don't get me wrong, this is a good book. But I feel the "for Nurses" part of the title is there for a reason. Since I'm not one, I'm going to pass this book along to one of the many nurses of the family. I'm sure they will enjoy immensely and enjoy sharing with their colleagues, too.
And, now for a the giveaway. We're giving away three copies of the book Chicken Soup for the Soul: Inspiration for Nurses. You have half a month to enter, with the giveaway ending 9/15/15 at 11:59pm EDT. The giveaway is open to US residents only who are 18+. Void where prohibited.
