Space Racers Parent & Educator Toolkit Review and Giveaway

Do you have a child who loves science and space in the preschool-third grade age range? Have they watched Space Racers on PBS yet? The show originated out of Maryland Public Television in 2014.
Produced in collaboration with NASA experts, the series follows a group of talented young spaceship cadets at the Stardust Bay Space Academy — speedy Eagle, strong Hawk, smart Robyn, brave Starling, and competitive Raven — as they soar through the solar system, learning about the power of scientific investigation and observation, the wonders of space exploration, and the importance of working together as a team.

What I received though isn't the TV show. Instead I received a Parent and Educator Toolkit about the show, with a second one available as a giveaway for you to win. The kit includes two discs, one a DVD with 13 full episodes and 4 segments, and one a CD with lesson plans, family activities, and kids' printables. It is a perfect addition if you're a home schooler.

With an eight year old, we're on the upper range of the shows' audience. He watched several episodes and tried out several printables/activities from the kit. The episodes and associated materials are a great way to reinforce key aspects of the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) curriculum.

Here's a list of what you'll find on the CD:

Lesson Plans
• A Team Approach
• Cosmic Craters
• Marble Racers
• Moon Phases
• Planet Jumble
• Revolving Planets
• Roll, Pitch, Yaw
• Sensory Detectives
• Shadow Time
• Shape Adventures
• The Bounciest Ball Experiment
• The Right Tools for the Task
• Topsy Turvy Fieldtrip

Family Activities
• Moon Time
• Shape Explorers
• Sky Patterns
• Sun and Planets Matching Game

Kids Printables
• Connect-the-Constellations Coloring Sheets
• Moon Phases Cards
• Moon Phases Chart
• Moon Phases Flipbook

You don't have to be a home schooler to appreciate the material but it certainly is a nice addition if that is your thing. Being a science nut, my son truly did like some of the activities. We had taken him to a planetarium recently so this certainly reinforced some of what he saw there.

If you're interested in getting the kit, you can go to the Space Racers Storefront and pick it up for $14.99. We do have a 20% off coupon that is good through 8/23: SRpopup3. That will make the price just $11.99.

The other way to get a copy is to enter below. The giveaway runs through 8/30/15 at 11:59pm EDT, so if you want the discount you have to buy before end of giveaway. You have to be a US resident who is 18+ (void where prohibited) if you want to win. Good luck.
