Many, many jobs ago, I had the opportunity to learn sign language as one of my coworkers was deaf. The group I was working with had everyone in that group go through sign language classes to make sure we could communicate with our coworker. I thoroughly enjoyed it at the time, especially our field trip to Gallaudet University, a private liberal arts school for the deaf and hard of hearing.

What does all this have to do with a review for a DVD? The Once Upon a Sign series of DVDs performs each fairy tale in American Sign Language. This isn't a little closed captioning box in the corner where someone is signing, Instead, the actors tell the story in sign.

I was sent The Magic Mirror DVD for review. And, it is that DVD that is available for the giveaway prize, but more on the giveaway later. Each DVD is for the 3-8 crowd and all have a release date of June 2nd.

What did I think of the DVD? It is a great way to bring together the deaf and hearing community, to teach your child some sign language, and to expose them to the deaf world in a way they normally wouldn't. Besides signing the story, each DVD includes some fun signs at the end to try to teach your child the sign language terms from the story. Great job all around.

And, now for our giveaway. Open to US residents who are 18+, this giveaway runs through 6/21/15 at 11:59 pm EDT. Here's your chance to win your own The Magic Mirror DVD.
