Curious Cook Gift Basket from Lakeside Review/Giveaway

I received this product for the purpose of this review. All opinions states are my own and may differ from yours.
Enter to win a Curious Cook Gift Basket from Lakeside Collections. Ends 12/21.
Do you like to give (or receive) gift baskets? I like hunting out for the perfect items to put into the basket, making the arrangement, and delivering it to the lucky recipient. Occasionally, I'll grab a pre-made one and surprise someone with the basket. More often then not though, its one my wife or I put together ourselves.

Lakeside Collection provides a wide assortment of items for sale online and via catalog. Everything from home furnishings, to apparel, to family toys, and beyond. They don't technically offer gift baskets though. What they do instead is provide a predefined set of products for you to order with instructions for constructing the gift basket yourself.

Pictured above is what I got, if you order components to make up a Cooking Up Something Special basket. Yes, everything comes in their little boxes or bags. It is then your responsibility to construct the basket. You can customize the individual items to include in the basket from the suggestions offered.
From all the items in their respective boxes/bags, you unwrap everything and prepare for constructing the basket. What basket you might add? Lakeside strives on using alternative items to serve as the basket component. Here, there are three handled bakers that form the basis of the presentation.
By carefully following their construction instructions, practically anyone can put together a basket, even me. Here's what mine looks like. My favorite item of the bunch is the heavy duty measuring cups instead of measuring spoons. My wife has also been watching a bit of the Pioneer Woman lately.

If you're thinking of coming up with your own, be sure to visit The Lakeside Collection Gift Basket Collection and Gift Basket Ideas: 5 Tips To Get You Started. The first shows you the five different themes Lakeside has predefined. If you decide to go your own route, that's where the latter choice comes into play. The key thing you need to do is come up with a solid base / container, and build things out from there, making sure you have items of differing heights to present a variety.

Overall, I like what Lakeside has to offer, from a gift basket perspective, and just for individual items they sell in the store. I enjoyed putting the actual basket together and will be sure to share it around the holidays. We just need to put it in a cellophane wrapper (not part of packaging) with a bow up top.

And now for the giveaway. You too can win the components to make up a Cooking Up Something Special. The giveaway runs through 12/21/14 at 11:59pm EST. Come back tomorrow to enter again for a better chance at winning.

  25. I like the bulk up tip: Gift baskets usually need some finessing and a little bit of manipulation to make it just so. Certain items may need to look taller than they are: you can raise them by putting a little bit of bubble wrap or crinkle paper underneath them.
