The Lego Neighborhood Book Review
The subtitle says it all here: Build Your Own Town. I love the LEGO books from No Starch Press and I'm grateful they continue to send them to me for review. The latest titled The Lego Neighborhood Book has you designing and building your own LEGO buildings without building-specific sets. If you have enough of the bricks already, you don't need to buy LEGO sets for the different buildings.

The primary parts of the book include full instructions for building four multistory structures. Building one is the corner drugstore (with the Soda billboard above). The other three are houses. They share a common base, then you finish off the Parisian, Colonial, and Canal Ring homes.

The rest of the book has you building what you might call dollhouse furniture and street elements. You'll find dining room sets, street lights, bedroom furniture, plants, and seating, among numerous other items.

One other part I should mention is just some designs from the authors. They look good, but no instructions on how to build. However, if you're able to extrapolate how to build, you can fill out your neighborhood.

This is a really fun book to read, if you want to call it read. It is recommended for 10+, which is probably about right. I can see my seven year old going through it but it might be a little beyond his level of building. Perhaps he could do the furniture. I don't see him having the patience to find all the pieces to go for the larger buildings.

  1. I am grateful to see your Lego book review. My son, who is 17, still enjoys working with Lego's and reading Lego books and does so daily. He has also started shopping online so if you have any favorite stores please do tell.
