The Calling Wine Pinot Noir Review and Jim Nantz Book Giveaway #sponsored

I participated in a campaign on behalf of Dad Central Consulting for The Calling Wines. I received a product sample and promotional item as a thank you for participating.
The Calling Wine Pinot Noir Review
I'm a big wine fan. It was hard to pass up the opportunity to review a bottle of wine from The Calling Wines, especially since so few wineries can ship wine into Massachusetts. I'm also big into following NFL football. The fact that announcer Jim Nantz is involved with the label, with wine industry expert Peter Deutsch, made it even more interesting. The success of both Jim and Peter can be attributed to their father's encouragement to follow their callings in life, hence the name of their wine. With Father's Day coming, what more reason could you want in finding this new vintage worthy of gifting on such a big day.

The Calling Pinot Noir Label
I got to sample their 2012 Pinot Noir. The grapes are 100% Pinot Noir, sourced from Dutton Ranch along the Russian River Valley, in Sonoma County, California. According to their web site, "this Pinot Noir's classic flavors of fresh cherries, mushrooms, and spice are framed by rich acidity, delicate texture and powdery tannins." I definitely picked up on the cherries when sampling, with a bit of an oakiness from its 10 months in barrel, and maybe even a sense of plum. Aroma-wise, you can grab on to some spiciness, too. At $37 for a 750ml bottle, The Calling wine is definitely on the pricier side. For gifting for Father's Day, it is nice when you can grab something a little more special for him than your everyday bottle. Well done.

The Pinot is just one of six varietals offered by The Calling. Be sure to explore their other offerings as time and budget permit.
Enter to win the Jim Nantz book Always by my Side. Ends 6/17.
To honor Jim's dad, he coauthored a bestseller in 2008 titled Always By My Side. It documented his father's long struggles with Alzheimer's disease. And, it is that book that we're giving away here, a signed copy even. US entrants have until 6/17/14 at 11:59pm EDT to enter to win.

  1. I had no idea wine could have a taste of mushrooms. Sounds like something my husband would like for Father's Day. My grandmother has alheimers

  2. I learned that they sell six different wines. That Russian River chardonnay sounds good.

  3. I learned that the Calling’s six wines include two Russian River Valley Chardonnays, two Alexander Valley reds and two Russian River Valley Pinot Noirs – one from Dutton Ranch and one from Fox Den Vineyards. They come from some of the most prestigious vineyards in Sonoma. The wines reflect the quality and character of these vineyards, exhibiting elegance and complexity from the first aroma to the lingering finish.
