Tapple Categories Game Review and Giveaway

Enter to win the categories game Tapple. Giveaway ends 6/21.
Do you like playing games with your family? Here is a new one that is quick, easy, fun, and, most importantly, playable by all ages. It is called Tapple and it is from USAopoly. The quick description is a game of categories, where you pick a card with a category, and then go around the table naming items in that category. The twist, you can only use each letter of the alphabet once. The last person standing, or more typically sitting, wins.

The Tapple board has twenty letters, removing ones like X, Z, and Q (as well as U, V, and Y). Categories in the game are like animals, TV shows, ice cream flavors, or items found at the circus. The big red button in the middle is a 10 second timer. After picking the card, play starts around the table naming an item in the category and pressing the letter down on the board so people know it is used, and pressing the button to reset the timer. Then the next person goes and so on. When a person can't name something in time with a letter that hasn't been used, they're out. You then reset timer and play continues with the next person.

The game is rated for ages eight and up but my seven year old picked up on the play quickly. He liked to go out of turn a little at first but eventually understood proper order. You can play as many or as few rounds as you want, as each one goes fairly quickly. Rarely does the board get more than half full. You'd think it was easy to name 20 animals, for instance, but once you have to do it with unique letters, in under 10 seconds each, the easy ones slip by and the timer runs out. Then you're out.

The game has become a regular in our house that our son likes. You don't have to spell the names which is part of the reason the younger kids can play. You can be spelling challenged and typically at least know what letter a word starts with. We should be playing this all summer for sure.
