MPOW Engine Bluetooth 4.0 Speaker Review
In the market for a Bluetooth speaker for your phone that isn't wearable? You have to check out the latest one I had a chance to try out from MPOW. It is their Engine model and is supposedly the smallest ultra compact speaker in the world. It is just 1.69 inches tall and has a diameter of 1.25 inches.

MPOW Engine Speaker
The best way I thought of to show off the size was to hang its rubber lanyard from a doorknob. A quarter barely covers the top of it, with a diameter of .955 inches.

The specs on the speaker are as such:

  • Bluetooth Standard: Bluetooth V4.0
  • Frequency Response: 180HZ-18KHZ
  • S/N Ratio: 80dB
  • Operating Range: Up to 30 feet
  • Playing Time: 5 hours
  • Charging Time: 1 hour
  • Height:1.69 inch
  • Diameter:1.25 inch
  • Weight:0.1 lb

Pairing the speaker to my phone was easy. Just place the unit nearby and Scan. It will show up as MPOW. Once sync'ed, the audio of your phone comes out of it. Given its size, I was amazed at the sound quality while playing some music from Spotify. You can also use it as the speaker for phone calls, and answer from the speaker. While this worked fine, it felt awkward listening to the phone call from such a small speaker.

The speaker has a retail price of $49.99, but is currently available for $19.99 from Amazon. I've tried out numerous other speakers before, and at that price point, you'll have a hard time finding something better. If you're looking for something for on-the-go, but don't want something in your ears, this is a great solution. Just hang the unit from your belt or bag and enjoy. At just 0.1 pounds, you'll hardly notice it there. It has a range of 30 feet from the phone and will last for about 5 hours of play time.

All three buttons on the unit are on the front and were easy to work with. Long presses on next/previous buttons were volume control and probably took the most to get used to. I kept changing music tracts without changing volume at first.

Overall, great quality for the size if you're in the market for something portable. You'll get the best sound if you direct the top towards you, but, if the volume is high enough, you don't have to do that. With 5 hours of play time, plenty of time to enjoy.
