Welcome to the 50 Cures For Boredom + $150 Visa Gift Card Giveaway, hosted by Thrifty Nifty Mommy and Viva Veltoro!

Summer is just around the corner and kids everywhere are looking forward to their summer break! Are YOU ready? Summer can be full of fun memories for families, but it can also be 3 months out of they year where mom and dad are consistently hearing, "I'm boooooored." 50 Cures for Boredom is a brand new book, written by Lorraine Hawley the author of ThemeTrip.com, that will put the fun back into your family time! When asked why she wrote this new book, here's what she had to say:

I have, for many years, created unique adventures for my own family. We have stepped outside the norm, explored our environment, and travelled, following a set theme from start to finish. These very special memories encouraged me to share my ideas with other families and help them step outside their own comfort zones, shy away the ideas of "normal" activities, and begin to explore what's possible. I found that many of the ideas became educational even when they were meant to just be fun and teens actually became engaged and put down their cellphones to participate. My goal when I wrote "50 Cures for Boredom" was to inspire others to enjoy their often limited quality time together with easy-to-follow theme ideas and create the kind of memories that last a lifetime.Let these 50 boredom busters be your go-to resource anytime, anywhere!
If you're tired of hearing, "I'm so bored!" or the dreaded, "what do you want to do today?" (Insert whiny voice here) then 50 Cures for Boredom is the book for you! It lets you choose a theme, follow a few simple steps, and start enjoying your day.

Instant ideas for kids, date nights, homeschooling, and family adventures are at your fingertips any time you need a quick Cure for Boredom! Take an imaginative journey with your family. Create a treasure hunt through the wild in your own living room; star in a fashion show runway with stuffed animals cheering you on; and host your very own Superhero Convention.

50 Cures for Boredom is a must read for busy parents, grandparents and couples with limited time and even limited budgets. It offers ideas that initiate imagination and play – and they're not just limited to children and teens; boredom cures also offers unique, away-from-the-kids date nights and explores creative family road trips. Many of the ideas covered in this book can easily be adapted to fit a home schooling curriculum and inspire creative, educational play.

50 Cures for Boredom is available for purchase as an ebook ($4.99) or paperback ($9.99) from Amazon.com or Barnes & Noble. For a limited time (through May 16th) you can purchase the ebook from Amazon.com for just $1.99!
One lucky person is going to win a copy of 50 Cures For Boredom in paperback form PLUS a $150 Visa Gift Card!

I know this is a bit early since we are not quite in summer yet, but if you want tickets and accommodations for either the Crush Fest in September, or the Harvest Fest in November, it is best to get them now. This year, September 13th is the scheduled date for Crush and November 1-2 is the scheduled dates of the Harvest Fest. The Harvest Celebration is a theme in itself. Over 35 wineries will be participating in this year's event. Temecula is a lovely, hidden gem in the wine world. Nestled only 45 minutes from San Diego in a valley of wineries, you can achieve the peace of a tranquil vacation along with some of the most amazing wines.

Last year we chose the Grapeline wine private tour and, although they do have a group tour bus that will pick you up at several hotels and is cheaper, if you have at least four people, you might find the private tour to be an acceptable price. Our whole group felt this tour company was fantastic! They show up on time with water bottles a plenty in the van and you set out to explore their recommended list of wineries. You can alter, of course, but they have a pretty good grip on the best stops. Our tour guy was engaging and wiling to go the extra mile, carrying our wines and storing them to take back with us as we sipped wines from place to place. For the harvest celebrations, they sell one or two day passes for a stop and taste, and most of the stops also have nibbles to go with the wine. Some wineries have bands on site and others just an amazing view. We chose the two day and it was just the right amount of time to see plenty of places.

You can choose to stay in a home rental and many can be found on VRBO or else there are several hotels including the South Coast Winery Resort and Spa, which is a bit bigger of a hotel and has a spa, or else the charming and more intimate Inn at Europa Village that has a lovely view and a charm that adds to the wine touring feeling. Always ask about a grouped package since both Go Grape tours and some of the hotels sell ticket packages.

Crush Fest is Sept 13, 2014
Harvest Fest is Nov 1-2 2014
