How to Choose a Private Dining Room

Belvedere On Mount Royal In 2012
by DanyJack Mercier

We have a guest post this week on private dining in Boston.

When organizing a birthday party, family get-together, or a romantic dinner, private dining is a great option to consider. Here are some things to keep in mind when choosing the location for your Boston private dining event.

Capacity
Private dining rooms can accommodate as few as 20 people, or as many as 200. Check how many private rooms the restaurant has and what the capacity of each one is, choosing the one that works best for your party. Do not try to fit too many people into one room or select a room that is too large for your party, even if you really like the restaurant. The atmosphere of your event will be largely effected by how well your guests fit with the room’s capacity.

Location
The location of your private dining establishment should be convenient for your guests to get to. Call ahead of time and check what the parking situation is, especially if your event is taking place downtown. If a valet service is available, be sure to let your guests know about it. If you are planning to have a lot of guests come from out of town, an easy access to the freeway or the airport will ensure that people arrive on time.

Food
Find out what type of a cuisine the majority of your guests prefer and narrow your search down to the restaurants specializing in it. If you are not sure about the guests’ preferences, go with a place that offers a variety of dishes to choose from. Be sure to ask ahead of time if the restaurant caters to people with common food allergies. Check whether vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options are available. Verify with the establishment if the pre-set menu is required for private groups, or if the guests can order their own meals from the general menu.

Drinks
If your Boston private dining party involves alcohol, check ahead of time what options are available. Some places allow guests to order drinks from the server, while others have a cash bar. Find out if any drinks need to be ordered ahead of time to make sure they are available, especially for a large party.
