Amelita by Court Yard Hounds Review

Amelita by Court Yard Hounds
It is hard to do a review of a Court Yard Hounds record without mentioning the Dixie Chicks. The Dixie Chicks have sold over 30 millions records and won 13 Grammy Awards with Natalie Maines as lead vocal with sisters Martie Erwin Maguire and Emily Erwin Robison. Amelita by Court Yard Hounds is the second album by the duet of the sisters. Noticeably missing from this album is the distinct voice of Maines, but that is what makes the Dixie Chicks so good and not Court Yard Hounds.
Court Yard Hounds

Given this is their sophomore album, it seems the girls should more seriously be considered to be a band. This is the point Emily Robison made recently, "We’re a band, not a side project. We like our sound, and we’re going to continue to do this, and share something new this time around."

The album consists of 11 new tracks:

  1. Sunshine
  2. Amelita
  3. The World Smiles
  4. Aimless Upward
  5. Guy Like You
  6. Rock All Night
  7. Phoebe
  8. Divided
  9. Gets You Down
  10. Watch Your Step
  11. The Road You Take
The first single released from the album is Sunshine. That and almost all the songs are lacking in that country music twang. That's a good thing. Instead, you get a mix of upbeat and very personal offerings.

This album contains a new perspective, which is due in part to time passed since Robison’s divorce. “I’ve been freed of all of those time-heals-everything kind of things,” says Robison. “Now, I’ve opened up to other ideas and ways of looking at life and the world. I think it’s not only a more hopeful album, but it’s more… well fun."

In the end, you'll find the music is very relatable.

You can connect up with the band on Twitter or Facebook, or their individual Twitter feeds for Emily Robison and Martie McGuire.

  1. I agree that the missing country"twang" is an improvement. This is more of a cross-over album - I like almost all the tracks! scain54 (at) aol (dot) com

  3. I liked the Dixie Chick's previous albums. Some of the songs were great even. But the Court Yard Hounds might be ... what the Dixie Chicks lacked, less "twang" and more soul. Thanks for this review.
