Yankee Candle Man Candles Review

I live in a Yankee Candle household. We're constantly burning candles from them, and my wife is a frequent visitor to their South Deerfield home location. When I saw the announcement for new Man Candle scents, I just had to try them. With names like Mmmm, Bacon and Movie Night how can you resist? Thankfully, I was provided with both scents to facilitate this review.
Yankee Candle Man Candles

If you aren't familiar with their Man Candles line, these were introduced last year with scents of Riding Mower, Man Town, and First Down. With more manly names (and scents) than their typical line, the hope was to attract more men to purchase their candles. Last year's scents didn't attract me as much as the newer pair. I wasn't so keen on smelling fresh cut grass for instance, but bacon... mmmm!!!

The first of the two candles we burned was Mmmm, Bacon (Homer). This certainly smells like bacon, the real pork kind, not the fake low cal turkey stuff, but it was universally thought that it reminded you more of a wood-burning fireplace. That wasn't a bad thing, just slightly different than expectations. The strongest aroma we got from this was coming home and opening the door. It just hits you if the candle had been burning for a while. You don't get the sound of bacon cooking when you burn this candle, or the clogged arteries either, but I can just imagine it being used for open houses when someone is selling their home.

The second candle we burned was hot buttered popcorn, or more precisely Movie Night. For this one, we imagined it smelled as if you had just cooked up fresh popcorn and threw some butter on it. Either on the stove or in the microwave. It had a good strong aroma here and no calories or guilt from eating it. I kept thinking of the Buttered Popcorn Jelly Belly flavor with this for some reason. While that one didn't have as strong of a scent as the candle, it was just weird getting the taste from something that didn't feel like popcorn. This kinda felt the same way.

For both candles, if you're dieting, I'm not sure if it is good to have the scents around. Mentally, they almost make you desire eating what you're smelling. They both do a good job of having memorable aromas around without the calories of the real thing.

What manly scents will they do next? I'm not sure. I can just image Locker Room where you get the smell of sweat from working out, or perhaps Stinky Bathroom, or maybe Cigar Smoke. Just think of smelling the smoke of a nice Cuban cigar without getting all the harmful side effects. Along the same lines, you can have Camel or Marlboro aromas even.

Great job on the candles.

  1. Love the idea of "manly" scents. I will have to check them out since we have a friend who is a "bacon-aholic" - would make a fun gift.

  8. I love candles and usually keep them burning in my house. But a Bacon Scent! Now I bet that would smell welcoming, I mean who doesn't love the smell of bacon. I don't know about the other men scents.I am a woman and I like my flower and fruity smell. But IF I had a man for company, that would be different. PS Love your contest site I get in mu e-mail!

  9. This is hilarious and cute! People always associate candles with ladies and femininity. But I know men who love fragrance but never get them for themselves because the names are always like "Garden Secret", "Fairy Lavender" or something of the like. Riding Mower sounds like something a man in my life might be willing to be caught with. :-D
