JOLLY TIME Pop Corn Review and Giveaway

Enter to win 1 of 3 coupons for a free box of JOLLY TIME Pop Corn
I've been off microwave popcorn for some time, munching instead on pre-popped/bagged popcorn. (It is free at the office) An opportunity arose recently with Tomoson.com where I had the chance to try out the latest JOLLY TIME Pop Corn made with Smart Balance Oil. What follows is a review and then a giveaway for you to win some of your own.

I was able to try both their regular Butter flavored and Butter Light flavored varieties. There is a 30 calorie per serving (75 calorie per bag) difference between the two, pre-popped. Only 15 calories difference per cup popped. Both are made with Smart Balance Oil which tries to balance the polyunsaturated, monounsaturated, and saturated fats, avoiding trans fats. While the Butter flavored started with 6 grams more fat pre-popped, after popping, there is only 1 gram of extra fat in the "full" butter-flavored variety. It is enough of a difference, though, where I clearly preferred the Butter flavored. The difference in flavoring is derived from the amount of corn oil versus palm oil. There is more palm oil in the light option. I guess I like the corn oil flavoring more. Was the light version bad or fake tasting? No. I just had a preference for the regular.

Nutrition Facts

Butter Flavored Nutrition Facts
I have one big complaint about the product, and that is the Nutrition Facts box. The serving size is listed as 4 cups popped, with the whole bag offering 10 cups popped, or 2 1/2 servings. The calories listed though are for only 1 cup popped (2nd column). You need to multiple the calories by 4 to figure out the calories per serving, and by 10 if you happen to eat the whole bag by yourself. I don't know if they take into account the unpopped kernels in calculating expected yield, so that could reduce the whole bag calories some. Naturally, I initially just multiplied the calories by the # of servings in the bag to get an expected calorie count per bag. Boy was I wrong.

Overall, I liked the flavor of the Butter better than the Butter Light. Enough to keep me away from the bagged varieties? I don't know yet. I have a few more bags left to pop to sample and see who wins.

JOLLY TIME Recipes

Interested in spicing up your popcorn? The JOLLY TIME web site has a recipes section, too. I'm going to try the Zesty Buffalo Style Popcorn, which adds some Cajun seasoning to the mix. They might even have some 4th of July party ideas for you there.

JOLLY TIME Giveaways

In addition to the giveaway below, be sure not to miss their Nurture a Healthy Lifestyle campaign on Facebook. There, you can enter to win one of 75 coupons for free JOLLY TIME Pop Corn and a weekly prize, too.

As far as the giveaway here goes, it is 18+ and US-only. It ends 7/14/13 at 11:59 pm EDT. There will be just one winner who gets all three coupons. The coupons are good on the 9 oz. packs and expire 12/31/13.
