AVEENO Men's Collection Review

I participated in a campaign on behalf of Dad Central Consulting for AVEENO. I received product samples and a promotional item as a thank you for participating.
The past few weeks, I've altered my shaving routine to try out the AVEENO Men's Collection. This consisted of their Face Wash, Shave Gel, and After Shave Lotion. I'm not particularly unhappy with my current routine. Just looking to see if there is something better out there.

AVEENO Men's Product Line

My typical shaving products involve whatever I can get for free or close to it at CVS and Walgreens. With the competition between Gillette and Schick, I can usually pickup razors for free like the Schick Hydro 5. The coupon deals with ExtraBucks / RegisterRewards can keep one's supply stocked pretty well. My skin tends to be a little sensitive so I do have to be a little selective with the remaining products, but since I don't need to shave every day, the supply usually lasts long enough until the next deal. For the actual facial wash, I tend to use a Body Wash of no particular brand. I'm overloaded with those from free with coupon deals.

My personal trial with the product line was to alter my routine so I only changed one product at a time whenever possible. I started by introducing the Face Wash product first. I then altered the Shave Gel, and then I finally threw on the After Shave Lotion. Each product includes an ACTIVE NATURALS® Oat ingredient which supposedly works to cleanse, moisturize and soothe sensitive skin. This was most noticeable in the Face Wash as you felt it texturally while washing your face. I barely noticed the texture of the oats in the other two. After using all three products together, I withdrew one at a time until I was back to my base set, taking away the Face Wash, After Shave Lotion, and Shave Gel in that order.

The first product I tried out was the Face Wash and this was actually my favorite overall. There was a noticeable difference while shaving after using the Face Wash. I tend to use a Body Wash normally to wash my face so using ANY product specific to a facial wash would probably have made my shaving job easier, but I could feel the oaty stuff doing its job and my face was better prepared to be shaven.
AVEENO Shave Gel
The Shave Gel was the next product I added to the mix. It felt / looked like your typical gel. It is fragrance free which I like. Its label says it "helps prevent bumps, nicks, and cuts" and "formulated to reduce shaving discomfort." Can't just about every shave gel say that? I really didn't notice much of any difference using the AVEENO shave gel, with or without the Face Wash, versus my regular routine. No complaints, but nothing extra special.

Lastly, the After Shave Lotion was added to the mix. I don't use an After Shave Lotion regularly, tending more to use as needed, than for every shave. The big thing here is the AVEENO After Shave Lotion didn't irritate my sensitive skin as some others do, which is great. Here is where the ACTIVE NATURALS Oat ingredient works best to cleanse, moisturize, and soothe any minor irritations.

In the end, thanks to the Face Wash, my whiskers were easier to deal with. The Shave Gel was nothing special. And the After Shave Lotion didn't irritate the skin. I'll definitely consider them all in the future if I can get them as a deal with coupons. I'm not convinced yet if I'd pay extra for them though if I can get something comparable for free with a coupon. We'll have to see how I feel after using them longer.
