Review of Bonsai Tree from Soothing Company

Soothing Company Logo
I recently received a Dwarf Jade Indoor Bonsai Tree from the Soothing Company for the purposes of a review. It is a great little tree and is the first time I ever ordered a live plant through the mail.

The whole idea of ordering a plant through the mail was foreign to me, apart from a Christmas wreath I won in a contest. The shipment came quickly with a "Live Plant" marking on the side of the box. As long as the shipping company keeps the box upright, you'll be okay and more precisely, so will the plant. It probably would survive a short term spill, given all the packing material inside, but I don't think it would do that well traveling upside down the whole way. So, hopefully, they (the shipping company) will at least get that part right. Imagine the box filled to the rim with peanuts here for support. Had to dig to find the plant once I opened the box.

Take away the peanuts, and the plant will still barely move in the box, given the full size base. It really didn't have much chance to move any. And the fortified soil stays in place with all the wrapping around the base, too. We definitely don't want that coming out.
Bonsai Tree Packaging
The Dwarf Jade Indoor Bonsai Tree itself is nice and about 8"-10" tall. I do need to get a tray to put under it so that when I water it every 5-7 days the overflow water that comes out of bottom of the planter won't stain the table underneath (or whatever you are using as a stand).  And the first couple weeks it did lose some of its leaves, but supposedly, that is to be expected.

The plant sells for $45, with free shipping, and no sales tax (unless you live in the state of Washington). And before ordering, be sure to click on the Coupon link on the right hand of the page. They'll instantly email you a 10% off coupon. There's also an image on the page that says to call them for additional discounts. I didn't try this option and their online help was offline when I was checking this feature out. Do give it a try, as it could reduce the price even further.

With the plant safely on a stand and off to the side a little, we'll see how soothing it is. Hopefully, neither the dog nor our son will want to play with it too much, as neither happening would reduce stress. It seems to be getting enough light, too, but I think it is still adjusting to its new home.

As far as the company goes, Soothing Company offers hundreds of soothing products for your home and office. Everything from water fountains to hammocks to bonsai trees and modern fireplaces. Basically, items meant to help you relax and release the stress. They are part of a larger conglomerate ProHomeStores, which has many small focused e-commerce sites, instead of one large Amazon-style store. Nothing bad about that, but if you notice the same product sold at multiple stores with the same Washington address, its probably a Pro Home Stores company.

I hope to enjoy the bonsai tree for years to come. And I will trim it periodically to keep it small, as was recommended in the bonsai care booklet that shipped with the plant.

  1. I have loved bonsai trees ever since I saw one for the first time in the Karate Kid movies as a little girl. I would love to have this in my massage room at my massage practice!!
